In Health and Physical Education, the focus is on the well-being of the students themselves, of other people, and of society through learning in health-related and movement contexts.
We have a large well qualified staff of ten Physical Education teachers and two Sports Coordinators.
In years 9 and 10 we expose the students to a wide range of activities and experiences. We teach games to help with the understanding of skills and strategies of sports and to enhance concepts of teamwork, co-operation and leadership. All students are involved in a Health programme during terms 2 and 3. During these years they are also offered outdoor education experiences tramping, skiing, beach education and a river trip.
In the senior school a range of courses are offered for NCEA. We cater for a variety of interests with courses in Sports Science, Outdoor Education and Health. These courses all offer literacy credits and are eligible for university entrance.
We have very good facilities in the Physical Education Department with four gymnasia, weights room, rockwall, high ropes, two senior Physical Education rooms, two Health rooms, a full sized hockey and activities turf and extensive fields.
